Bölzer - Aura (2013)

The band's name is difficult to translate into one word, but could roughly be approximated to something like "smasher" or "bulldozer".

"Bölzen" is a Swiss German verb deriving from "Bolzen" (a bolt); "bolzen" (verb, without the umlaut) can also mean "to drive fast" in other parts of the German-speaking countries as well as being a term related to football ("to slam").

The band themselves describes the meaning as "a powerful force or blow or strike that has no regard for the consequences or the repercussions. And in that sense it’s not directed either, it’s just a chaotic strike of energy…. a force of chaos, and a force of life and death and anything."

Dissection - The Somberlain (1993)

Jon Nödtveidt (aged 31) shot and killed himself on August 13th, 2006. Swedish police found him in his apartment inside a circle of lit candles. It is believed that he killed himself because he felt he had achieved all that he could/was meant to in this life. According to some who actually knew him this was probably planned ever since he got out of jail.

The band first disbanded due to Jon Nödtveidt's accomplice to murder conviction. He was serving time in prison since 1997 until early 2004 and then reactivated the band.

Rotting Christ - Triarchy of the Lost Lovers (1996)

Before they formed Rotting Christ, Sakis Tolis, Themis Tolis and Mutilator played in a band together called Black Church, which they started in 1985. They went on to create Rotting Christ in 1987.

Originally started as grindcore, but after Satanas Tedeum they became a straight up black metal act. In due time, with the release of A Dead Poem, the band headed towards the gothic realm and lost most of their black metal element. They started going back to their heavier sound on Khronos and on Sanctus Diavolos they blackened their sound even more. With Theogonia, the band had started incorporating many folk elements in their sound.

In 2012 the band announced that the line-up from their first three albums (Sakis Tolis, Themis Tolis, Mutilator, George Zacharopoulos) will get together again for a show in Nuclear War Now festival in Berlin, Germany celebrating their 1000th show and play songs exclusively from their first three albums and demos. When the time came for this one show the band actually appeared with the current 2012 line up and not the original as it was planned.

Originally began as a 5-piece called Guillotine with Clive Archer on vocals, Alan Winston on bass and Cronos on rhythm guitar. Archer and Mantas met at a Judas Priest concert in 1979 which led to Archer and Abaddon (both of the band Oberon) joining Guillotine.

Cronos switched to bass when Alan Winston left the band a week before a gig - his decision to plug his bass guitar into a guitar amp is credited with the development of his trademark "bulldozer bass" sound. The line-up was further trimmed down to a three-piece following the first demo session when the rest of the band decided they prefered Cronos' vocal style to Archer's.

Storm - Nordavind (1995)

Storm have three non-album tracks released exclusively on the "Crusade from the North" compilation (1996): "Oppunder Skrent Og Villmark", "Noregsgard" (remix) and "Mellom Bakkar Og Berg" (rehearsal).

On the album 'Nordavind', Storm plays metallized versions of traditional Norwegian folk songs.

The lyrics from the first paragraph of the song Nagellstev, are the same as the words said by "The Girl" in Ulver's song "Capitel II - Soelen Gaaer bag Aase Need" from the Bergtatt album, minus the archaic way of writing.

Founded in May 2008.

Sail or Saille is the 4th letter of the Irish Ogham alphabet, meaning "willow". The bandname is pronounced [sahl-yeh].

Saille is a self-defined epic black metal band consistently incorporating real classical instruments (e.g. cello, violin, cornet, trumpet, euphonium, grand piano, hobo) into their compositions.

Lyrically Saille handles ‘the fearful, the uncanny and the weird’. On earlier releases: Death rites and Forces of Nature.

Emperor - Wrath of the Tyrant (1992)

Emperor were one of the bands somewhat involved in the church burnings during the mid 1990s. Samoth was jailed 16 months for taking part in church burnings with Varg Vikernes (Burzum), along with other members of the Norwegian black metal scene. 

Drummer Faust was jailed for church burning and for the stabbing and murder of a homosexual man in 1992 (he was never suspected for it until 2 years later when he was arrested in 1994).

The group disbanded in 2001 because they felt they had lived up to everything they wanted to with Emperor. They have received "legendary" status, toured worldwide, have a large catalog of releases, and they didn't want to be known as another group that "never knows when to quit making music".

Drudkh - Blood in Our Wells (2006)

On some of their albums Drudkh uses the lyrics of Taras Shevchenko and other Ukrainian poets.

Drudkh means "wood" in Romanized Sanskrit.

Drudkh doesn't support any extreme ideology and declares itself as a non-political band.

Weakling - Dead as Dreams (2000)

Recorded at Louder Studios in December 1998.

The band's name was taken from the Swans song of the same name from their album Filth.

After "Dead as Dreams" was recorded, a lot of tales sprung up about the possible ways it could be distributed, e.g. only a few copies of the album were buried in the ground and maps were given to fans who wanted to find them. According to John Gossard, this was a joke between the band members, which later was spread by their label.

Imperium Dekadenz - Procella Vadens (2010)

Imperium Dekadenz was founded during late summer 2004 by Vespasian and Horaz.

The band was featured on the In Autumnal Fog 2009 sampler with the song "An Autumn Serenade", freely downloadable on the Autumnal Fog website.

Their third album with the Latin title "Procella Vadens" meaning "The Wanderer of the storm", was released by Season of Mist in April 2010.

The name of the band was inspired by the movie "Caligula" (1979), which was regarded as a scandal due to its extreme violent and pornographic scenes. Imperium Dekadenz' lyrics reflect genre typical topics like death, mourning, hatred and despair.
